A “hernia” is where an organ has pushed it’s way through an opening in your abdominal wall

  • Inguinal Femoral hernia ultrasound

    Groin hernias

These hernias are commonly “inguinal or femoral.” There is a stepwise progression of a vague ache in the groin, then a lump in the groin. This lump can be pushed back but progressively it can increase in size. Very occasionally, the hernia can get “stuck.”

Typically, these are repaired either as a “keyhole” or a standard open procedure. On occasion, you may need to stay in overnight after surgery. Jonathan will discuss with you the options available.

  • CT belly button epigastric umbilical hernia

    Belly button and epigastric hernias

These are commonly small lumps that increase in size over time. An ultrasound may identify these. Depending on your symptoms, an operation can help you. These are normally performed as a day procedure.

  • CT incisional hernia

    Incisional hernias

Sometimes a hernia forms after an operation. This is more common after open procedures and particularly in emergency operations but can happen even from elective keyhole surgery.

These types of hernias often enlarge over time and require repair. Depending on the size, these often require a 3-5 day stay at Hollywood Hospital for recovery.
